First Class and Business Class seats and armchairs for the world’s leading airlines.
Poltrona Frau In Motion’s Aviation division works across the private jet and commercial aircraft sectors, supplying seats, armchairs and interior fittings for flight decks and passenger cabins.
The company’s long-standing experience in residential interiors has enabled the design department to combine its expertise in ergonomic aircraft seating with the use of upholstered elements typical of interior design. Over time, this approach has been enriched with new skills, bringing comfort, elegance and multifunctionality to the highest level. In aviation interiors, design must balance elegance, comfort, lightness, and technical precision. Poltrona Frau In Motion develops solutions defined by soft, fluid lines and refined surfaces, always tailored to the specific requirements of each aircraft. Safety is integral to every stage of the process, with certified materials and upholstery systems designed to meet the strict standards of the aviation industry.
Frau Aviation was established in 1989, building on early experience with premium seating projects for international airlines. Its first official aircraft interior was created for Diamond Jet, the Linate-based air taxi company. The quality of this work quickly earned the company recognition within the Italian aeronautical sector and led to one of its most prestigious early commissions: the interiors of the Italian Presidential aircraft.
Today, Poltrona Frau In Motion’s aviation expertise extends across international airlines, private aircraft, and helicopters. Notable projects include the co-design collaboration with Ross Lovegrove for Japan Airlines First-Class seating, as well as work for Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Beond Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines.
What we do

At the same time, Poltrona Frau In Motion continues to research innovative and emerging materials, with a particular focus on solutions derived from plant-based renewable sources and recycled raw materials. The aim is to offer clients a broader range of alternatives while helping to reduce environmental impact. Before being presented to clients, every material and covering is carefully assessed against the rigorous certification requirements of the aviation industry.

Our role goes beyond guidance on colours and finishes. Working in close co-design with each client, we develop the construction and stitching systems for the seat covers, creating solutions that enhance both aesthetics and comfort — delivering a level of tactile and perceived quality that goes far beyond a conventional automotive or aircraft seat.
This approach enhances not only aesthetics but also creates a level of real and perceived comfort that is significantly higher than that of a conventional car or aircraft seat.
We are constantly developing new models, customised with woven details, micro-textures, embroidery, contrast stitching and laser engraving.
Each cover combines artisanal mastery with industrial precision, ensuring the same quality of execution even across large volumes. A dedicated team manages special requests, such as limited editions and private aircraft.

Fire-retardant polyurethane foams in different densities, together with Pelle Frau® or fabric upholstery, give shape to welcoming, comfortable ergonomic armchairs, complete with headrests and reclining functions.
Depending on the configuration, each seat can be completed with magazine holders, concealed tables, cushions, LED screens and charging sockets. On demand, they can be transformed into sleeperettes or fully fledged sleeper cabins, with elegant partitions providing privacy, acoustic insulation and light control.
